The

Over the last 130 years Star Fleet has grown into the most powerful military, colonial,
and exploratory force in the known galaxy. Its primary duties are to defend the United
Federation of Planets from any and all enemies and invaders; to keep open the space lanes;
to render any necessary humanitarian assistance to any in need; and to explore, colonize,
and develop frontier regions. This manual describes the assets of Star Fleet that enable
it to fulfill those obligations. Moreover, it gives the full historical roster of ships
going back to the founding of the service on Stardate 0/8910.
Every class of starship is listed: Combat Vessels (assault ships, battleships,
corvettes, cruisers, cutters, destroyers, escorts, frigates, monitors, scouts), Support
Vessels (transports, freighters, warpshuttles) and Repair Vessels and Facilities (tenders,
tugs, mobile docks, and defense outposts.) The full historical range of vessels from the
Constitution, Anton, Larson, and Nelson class ships of "The Great Awakening" to
the Excelsior and Scorpio classes of the present day are detailed.
Each class of ship is shown in profile, top, and bow-on view. Then there is a full
specification section listing: Construction Data (model numbers, date entered service, and
total number constructed), Hull Data (length, width, height, weight, cargo capacity, and
landing capability), Equipment Data ( control computer type, number and type of
transporters), Personnel Data (crew, passenger, and shuttle craft capacities), Engine and
Power Data (warp engine type and number, maximum safe cruising speed, emergency speed,
impulse engine type), Weapons (beam weapon type and number, missile weapon type and
number), Shields Data (deflector shield type and maximum power) and the Combat Efficiency
Rating. In addition, a note section is included listing the brief history of the class,
strengths and weaknesses, and exploits and anecdotes of famous representative vessels.

Contents:
- Also included is a two page pull-out recognition silhouettes chart, on the reverse side
there is Time Line of Active Duty for all Classes.
- Note: That this book doesn't have a Black and White starship counters page.
Note (Versions): (entered into insider info) There are two known printings of this manual.
Apparently some of the information was slightly changed between the
early print and the later print. To I.D. these books turn to page10
(Enterprise Class) and under MK I read the Weight under HULL DATA,
If the figure is 160,275mt then you have an early print, If the
figure is 150,275mt then you have the later print. Its unknown at
this time how much was changed through out the book.
Another way to I.D. the book is the price on the back of the
book. If its 8.00 dollars then its the later print, if its 7.00
dollars its an early print.

Package Cover |
(1983) ISBN: 0-425-06959-1
Contains three 22'' X 33" starfield maps for use with "STAR TREK II Starship
Combat Simulator." Hexs are not numbered.
Package Cover is actually one of the
hex grid maps back side. The paper stock is heavier
and stiffer than what comes with the Starfield Hex Grid package listed
below.
(Actual Measurements are: 22 X 32 at each "page" at a Letter size
piece of paper: 8 X 11) - These measurements are of the 'black'
area, no white border was measured.
These sizes make it perfect too reproduce the entire Mat, on a
standard home printer, of course minus the white boarder.
Hex Example (note white border) (1983 Copyright)

Package Cover |
(1985) ISBN: 0-931787-81-5
Contains five 22'' X 33" starfield maps for use with "STAR TREK III Starship
Combat Role Playing Game". Hexs are numbered.
The paper stock is lighter and thinner than what comes with the Starship
Combat Hex Grid package listed
above. However the quality of the Grey color levels is richer with
better stars.
(Actual Measurements are: 22.5 X 32.5 at each "page" just over a
Letter size piece of paper: 8.125 X 11.25)
These sizes make it difficult too reproduce the entire Mat, on a
standard home printer.
Example Of Hex Sheet (1985 Copyright)
Note , Sheet specially Numbered: This FASA Hex Sheet is specially made when compared to the standard hex
sheet. Each hex itself measures 1 1/25" from point to point and 1 1/16" from
side to side (outside measurements) OR 1 inch from side to side (inside
measurements) while using 1 inch counters. The Hexs are numbered in thirty-five groups of
twenty (or 35 columns of 20 hexes each), so 0001-0020 , 0101-0120 , 0201-0220 and so on up to 3420. These special numbers
are
used for published scenarios for placement of obstacles, mines, and used for various
other purposes such
as tracking cloaked ships that move without a counter present.

Note about covers: Some of these tricorder folders have yellow lettering rather than
red on the front and back covers. The Red title lettering one is the
later print.
A special note about the the red packaging: It has four small
white arrows on the cover and four on the back, where the yellow
packaging doesn't have any at all.
Note about a flaw: The Tricorder inside the packaging that comes with the yellow
folder is missing one
dial arrow that points to the top right dial. They corrected this in the red
version.
