feeling of being in the TOS Era Universe.
Assume the identity of your favorite Star Trek character (or one you make) and become
part of the voyages of the Starship USS Enterprise (or any other Constitution class ship).
You will control your character's every thought and action as you lead him through one
futuristic adventure after another. You will be facing the new challenges and unknown
dangers of the final frontier. You will be the one who is forced into life or death
situations which will require every ounce of your cunning and intellect as you experience
all the excitement of Star Trek.
Star Trek: The Role Playing Game is a sophisticated game of strategy and interaction,
whose only limits are those of your own imagination. The game includes a complete set of
rules which create the world of Star Trek, and provide a framework in which players can
interact, explore, fight, eat, sleep, or do anything else imaginable. Every facet of the
Star Trek saga can be developed and explored. New races, civilization, and problems can be
created, and exciting new puzzles can be solved. It is all up to you!

About the back of the box: There are three
different box backs, we think there where some printing errors that where fixed with each
box difference such as paragraph errors, copy and paste errors and pages out of order. The
adventure book also had similar errors corrected in later printings.
The early printings had black and white images w/K-7
Station in lower left. The back of the box lacks proper copyright
information.
At some point one of the pictures,
the K-7 was
covered with a copyright sticker in the lower left.
On the later printings many pictures
where changed and color was added, also a single content picture in
the center bottom was added. Ultimately this new set of colorized
pictures where reused for the 2nd Edition rules box backs. Note: The
extended copyright info is now included in the text block, rather
than on the sticker.
Starship Combat System (SCS) Game Notes:
This 1st ED starship combat system (SCS) generally supports up to 12 players, 6 on each side with a maximum of
two separate ships (you can reduce the number of players per-side by having each player
handling more than one panel.) The players would each represent a station on the bridge.
Instead of a tactical board game, the role playing combat system offered players the
chance to sit at "consoles" for the various bridge stations and perform their
duties by allocating power to various systems, setting course, activating the shields, and
firing weapons. The Game Master then used a Simplified System to represent other ships.
Which basically is a "Master Control Panel" which is found in later released
Starship rules. The Simplified System is usable by the players if they wish,
particular
if a single player controlled one or more ships.
This
box is an Officially released personally autographed copy of the
game. Notice the gold round sticker on the cover of the box. The
book inside is signed on the inside front cover.
As far as I know only Walter Koening & James Doohan signed some
box sets. These are the later printings where the back half of the
box is in color, the latest 1st Edition printings.

- Cadet's Orientation Sourcebook (40 pages): (overview of the Star Trek universe)
This book contains information about the
STAR TREK universe. It includes illustrated sections on the races and governments in the
known universe, as well as photo-illustrated sections on the organization and equipment of
Star Fleet. For players new to STAR TREK, there is a time line of events and a glossary of
STAR TREK terms. (Players can choose from 6 races
for their characters- humans, Andorians,
Caitians, Edoans, Tellarites, and Vulcans. Info given also for Gorn, Klingons, Orions,
Romulans, and the Tholians. Character Info given for Enterprise major crew, and even some
other characters like Sarek, Harcourt Fenton Mudd (Harry Mudd) , and Kahn Noonian Singh.)

This book contains all the information necessary for
designing and running games. It has sections on designing

These NEW rules update #2001 Star Trek, the Role
Playing Game (First Edition) Starship Combat and
2204 Ship Construction Manual (First Edition).

-Update One: There's a new bridge position and player
for Klingon ships, the Weapon Officer. Also weapon control is moved from the Helmsman. To
support these NEW rules, two special Klingon Panels have been made. Weapon Officer
and a simplified Helmsman Display. Also included are NEW Generic Panels that allow the
preparation of full player combat panels for weapons officer and helm positions on ANY
Klingon vessel. The NEW Generic Helm Display replaces the old one found in the
2204 Ship Construction Manual (First Edition).

The Klingons is an expansion for Star Trek: The Role Playing Game. It contains rules for
generating Klingon characters and is a sourcebook for Klingon social structure, history,
and military organization. Updated to include all Klingon Information upto and including
STIV.

TAKE THE CON, LIEUTENANT
STARSHIP TACTICS All that stands between the Klingon battlefleet and Starbase One is a
handful of
Starfleet vessels. Your leadership must pull them together and make them work, or they'll
be destroyed by the enemy force of D-7 Battlecruisers.
A starship captain has his command at his fingertips, but you must take the role of a
Starfleet commodore, with command over this entire small fleet. You must be a step ahead
of the enemy, or see the vessels that depend on you for tactical direction destroyed one
by one.
Two D-7's sweep to starboard, disruptors blazing. Only one of your ships can bring phasers
to bear quickly enough, but her captain reports heavy casualties already. The Klingon
squadron leader has turned only weak aft shields to the "Hood" at flank. It only
takes one mistake - has the Klingon leader made it, or have you?
As you bark out orders, you know this is, after all, only a simulation
exercise. But if
you're really only a Lieutenant in training, why are you gripping the arm of the command
chair with nervous fingers? Next time, it could be real ships, real lives in your hands.

In this section of the STAR TREK II, STARSHIP COMBAT SIMULATOR, you are in direct command
of an array of starships facing a deadly, spaceborne enemy. You must use your forces to
best advantage against your opponent. Fleets from all the galactic superpowers of the
STAR
TREK universe are at your disposal for simulating space battles in preparation for the
always-present possibility of war.
STARSHIP TACTICS is designed for two or more commanders controlling from one ship each
to the entire fleets, included in this box are the basic rules for beginning play, the
advanced rules to expand play with more option and finally the expert rules for more
detailed play.
Can be played as a stand-alone game, or used to play out Starship Combat for "Star

"Open hailing frequencies and try all standard identification methods," you
order and your communications officer follows through practically before you finish
speaking.
"No response, sir, they're ignoring us."
"Object is definitely a manned starcraft matching our speed on an intercept
course." the science officer elaborates. "Too soon to make complete
identification."
Suddenly everyone is looking at you. All of these highly trained Starfleet Officers

This section of the game, STAR TREK II, STARSHIP COMBAT puts you
directly in the role of a starship officer on the bridge during a combat simulation run.
Using your control panel you have an instant readout on the functions of your part of the
ship and can effect changes in systems status - all under the direction of the captain.
For the player in the Captains seat there is no control panel - just the awesome
responsibility of giving orders and directing the ship's fate.
COMMAND & CONTROL is
played by 3 to 6 players (serving as the starship bridge crew), plus an
"instructor" who sets up and monitors the situation while controlling the
opposing vessels.

Step into the command seat of a starship for the Federation, the Klingon Empire,
Romulan Star Empire, Gorn Alliance, or an Orion Pirate raider with the new
Star Trek
Starship Tactical Combat Simulator.
This game lets you simulate starship battles in the Star Trek universe. (TOS,
STI, STII, STIII) Its a hex-based military simulator that you can play as one of five
different factions which includes the Federation (of course), Klingon Empire, Romulan Star
Empire, Gorn Alliance, or as an Orion pirate raider.
Players select from a variety of
ships described in the rule book, spend about five minutes copying the information from
the rule book to their "control panel" sheet. (There are also pre-filled
out sheets you can photocopy if you know which ships everyone will be using in). The
"control panel" mats represent control consoles for different crew positions and
counters each player could move along them reflecting the ship's state and their efforts
to effect it.
This clever conceit turned ship combats into a dramatic sessions of
delegated responsibilities. The Captain's player would be shouting commands to the various
crewmen players who, in turn, would roll dice and adjust the panels in front of them as
they shouted back the results. A good storyteller, meanwhile, would be spitting out color
commentary along with overviews of the changing tactical situation.
You will spend about
25 to 30 minutes or so allocating energy, spending movement points, calculating to-hit
numbers, taking into account damage modifiers, and finishing combat.

The Back of the Box.
Special note about printed versions: There's two known versions of the
STCS, an early printing and a later printing. FASA at some point "updated" the
rulebook to correct some errors (not all though). If you turn to pg37 of your STCS and
look in the top right corner and find that the title of the section for Self Destruction
is present, then you have the early printing. If it's missing, then you have
the later print.
Early Printing: The earlier printings on pg37 the "SELF-DESTRUCTING
A STARSHIP" title and rules
are presents. Also in this printing, the Command and Control section has text that
simply was lifted from the ST:III Starship Combat rules and inserted. On
Pg54 there is a missing BANKED WEAPONS DAMAGE TABLE.
Later Printing: The later printing on pg37 the self destruct title
is missing and the actual
rules for self destruct is missing, they omitted it out and replaced
it with a paragraph explaining why ship captains wouldn't blow up their own starships. (Identical
to the official Errata)
Also, the Command and Control section in Later printings has the correct and
updated text. On Pg54 there is a BANKED WEAPPONS DAMAGE TABLE. (notice how
weapon is spelled with two Ps)
This later print is most likely found included with the Deluxe version of the RPG box
set. There's no know way to tell the difference from the early print to the later print
from the box or the covers of the book. FASA didn't give any indications that there where
changes on the box or book, no notes or new copyright dates.
About the Errata: The errata sheet comes with some of the STCS Box sets and with
some Deluxe Boxed Sets of the RPG. The self-destruct cop-out was on it (this
is the updated text), as well as a
clarification/corrections Among some of the fixes are, a corrected SENSOR
SHADOW DIAGRAM, a BANKED WEAPONS DAMAGE TABLE and counters to
photocopy for the 4 x D-10 and 4 x Gallant Wing. However there is no updated Command
and Control section, which there should have been as there are errors in the
early printed book. Regardless of which printing you have, portions of the
Errata still apply.
Note: FASA also Sold just the book #2003A separately without the box:
When sold separately, this book does not include playing pieces, maps, dice, master
control panel book or the book of forms, tables, and control panels.

This shrink wrapped edition apparently only comes with one counter sheet(78
pieces) and lacks the starfield hex map. I suspect this edition to be an early printing,
as mentioned above.
The Wrong Title: Notice in the following image, that the STSTCS
spine title is labeled as:
It has the words 'Tactical and Combat' in the wrong places and adds
'Game'. This is
true for all prints of this book.
However, This title follows more closely with the other starship
combat games.

Star Fleet. For players new to STAR TREK, there is a time line of events and a glossary of
STAR TREK terms. (Players can choose from 6 races
for their characters- humans, Andorians,
Caitians, Edoans, Tellarites, and Vulcans. Info given also for Gorn, Klingons, Orions,
Romulans, and the Tholians. Character Info given for Enterprise major crew, and even some
other characters like Sarek, Harcourt Fenton Mudd (Harry Mudd) , and Kahn Noonian Singh.)
- Game Operations Manual - (a game master's only book)
This 48-page book contains all the information necessary for
designing and running games. It has sections on designing
adventures and presenting them to players. There are sections on
judging character generation and actions planetside and in
space. (All types of tables, etc.)
- Note: In the Second Edition Basic Set, the Starship Combat
Rules where removed and produced separately. At this time the
'Star Trek III Starship Combat Game' became available, but you
may use any Starship Combat Game Box Set released there after.

Typo/Errors: (This applies to the Deluxe box set as well)
On pages 24 (left column) & 37 (right column) of the Game Operations
Manual, the book says for a characters Wound and Fatigue healing
rates should be calculated as follows:
WOUND HEAL RATE -
divide END score by 10 FATIGUE HEAL RATE - divide END score by 20
This system was obviously used to calculate the example
character, Lee Sterling's healing rates (on the character sheet
shown on page 2 of the Cadet Orientation Manual).
However, in
the Starfleet Officer's Manual, as well as The Romulans, The
Klingons, Orions, Starfleet Intelligence and the 2ed of Trader
Captains & Merchant Princes supplements, the formula is reversed:
WOUND HEAL RATE - divide END score by 20 FATIGUE HEAL RATE
- divide END score by 10
The sample character sheet in the
Starfleet Intelligence and Romulan supplements also use this second
formula. The Game Operations Manual is the one in error, the
second formula above is correct.
Back of the Box. NOTE: On the back of the basic
game boxes the ISBN number is on the RIGHT bottom corner
instead of on the left as on the Deluxe Box Set. In addition some basic sets do not have
an ISBN on the back. (left photo).
I'm guessing the box with-out the ISBN was an earlier print, why
would they forget to print it later...
This is the UK-licensed box cover version published by Games Workshop. Notice no FASA Logo
on in the lower left,
and the "Basic Game" text is in the lower left instead of in the top
left. Also there is no fasa Stock number in the top right hand corner.

The game contains all the starship combat rules for Starship Tactics, a game of fleet actions and Command and Control, a role playing version of ship to ship combat.
There are two separate games included in this set. Each shows a different facet of starship command during battle. Starship Tactics
is a game of combat between the commanders using a starfield map and
playing counters. The players combat individual ships or fleets. Command & Control
is role-playing starship bridge crew. Players direct the ship through
battle using individual consoles for communications, engineering,

#2003 owners so they didn't have to buy a
whole new game box to update their STII game to be equal to the Star Trek III Starship Combat Game
level(1st edition) listed just above. No rule updates are included or required.
There was an order form that came with the later printings of the STII:SCS
that announced this.

The Triangle details the region between the Federation, Klingon Empire, and Romulan

The Orions hold a unique place in the STAR TREK Universe. Their planets sit between the
Federation and Klingon Empire, they tend to ignore political boundaries, they tend to do
anything if it will lead to profit. There is no central Orion authority, and so families
and clans do pretty much what they want. Slavery is still common in Orion society. This
two-book Set includes The Book of Common Knowledge for players and The Book of Deep
Knowledge for gamemasters. The Book of Common Knowledge details the facts as any but true
Orions would know them. The Book of Deep Knowledge provides the true facts concerning all
aspects of Orion life, society, politics, and economics.
The Orions supplement for Star Trek: The Role Playing Game consists of
two books.
- The Book of Common Knowledge (80-pages); contains information that is
known to Federation, Klingon, and Romulan characters. Inside are the Orions' social
structure, a racial history dating back hundreds of thousands of years, descriptions of
trade on Rigel IV (where alien races have traded for millennia), details on Orion slavery,
and numerous planetary descriptions.
- The Book of Deep Knowledge (48-pages); provides that information known
only to the gamemaster and Orion characters. It fills the gaps of Orion history, presents
the Orion character generation system, describes Orion families, corporations, and
governments, and the exciting green slave women. The book also sets the record straight on
Orion pirates.
Whether seductive slaves or merchants extraordinaire, Orions are the most treacherous,
egocentric, opportunistic, materialistic, hedonistic, and barbaric beings in the galaxy.
Play them to the hilt with The Orions.
Note: The Orions received a lot of coverage in the FASA
system. The two other most important supplements dealing with Orions
were: "The Triangle: which covers the area of space known as the
Triangle where a lot of Orion happenings go on. Also "Trader
Captains & Merchant Princes" is the best source on commerce in Star
Trek, and as such, contains a lot of info on the Orions and being a
trader. The Triangle comes with a map, this is highly recommended if
you plan on using the Orions and that region of space.
The
"Triangle Campaign" is a set of adventures for the Triangle. Not
really useful in this case. However both "Orion Ruse" and "Margin of
Profit" contain things on Orions, but thin. "Margin of Profit" is
eight pages of adventure and 36 pages of characters, maps, and ship
stats. “Orion Ruse” is only slightly better.

These plans display every interior and exterior aspect of the USS Enterprise, the top
of the line Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser made famous by the Star Trek Series.
The Box Contains:
- The Plans; 9 double-sided, 22x33 inch foldout cardstock sheets which display the entire
interior and exterior of the ship. The plans have a 1/2" square grid overlay for use
with the Star Trek Role Playing Game during character movement through the ship with 15mm
miniature figures or cardboard counters. (figures and counters not included)
- Ship Recognition Handbook; A 12 page (including cover and credit page) booklet for the
USS Enterprise, the top of the line Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser. Descriptions and
explanations of the plans. The last page is a cross section of the USS Enterprise.

Edition) except these plans are much larger. The Handbook is slightly
